Gillis Quarries is the main
industry in Garson. The Quarries’ fossil-filled limestone graces
many of Canada’s most notable buildings, including the interior of
the Legislature and Parliament Buildings in Ottawa. The quarry
supplied about $4 million worth of Tyndall stone to the Museum of
Civilization in Ottawa-Hull. Gillis Quarries also supplied the
limestone for the Assiniboine and Forks walkways. Gillis Quarries
ships its limestone from Ontario to B.C. and into the U.S.
