 Transportation

The North Eastman region, with its proximity to Winnipeg and the U.S. border, excellent network of highways, and two national rail lines, ensures convenient access to markets. The region benefits from an excellent transportation system centered in the multimodal hub that Winnipeg has become. Winnipeg has the following facilities;

  • the headquarters of 2 of Canada’s 5 largest for-hire trucking organizations
  • 24-hour international airport with major facilities for Purolator, Federal Express and UPS couriers
  • the main line for CP and CN rail and their intermodal stations

All of Southern Manitoba is part of the Mid-continent Trade Corridor that extends from Mexico to the deep sea port of Churchill at Hudson’s Bay. Both the rail system and the highways of the trade corridor merge with the American infrastructure when it crosses the border, creating direct links for trade in the North Eastman region when the main line railroads and the Trans Canada highway run through the region on their way to Winnipeg. Residents of the North Eastman area are linked by bus service from Grey Goose Bus Lines and some individual communities have their own taxi and Handi-van service.
